…   I began my career as a single parent swimming for my life and the security of my children.  Many days I wanted to curl up in a fetal position and suck my thumb.

I am grateful I found a job, created a career and eventually started Matthews Media Group (MMG),  a public relations and marketing firm in the built-out garage of my suburban house.   MMG grew to a staff of over 150 and more than $20M in revenue.

Now my mission is to help others navigate the work world from an entry-level job through career development or even starting a business.  (Those who succeed in today’s entrepreneurial world will likely be called upon to build an entity that is similar to a small business even if it is within the context of a greater organization.)

I hope to inspire and educate my readers and the participants in my career development workshops to find innovative ways to learn and reach career goals in any stage of life.

About My Companies

The Washington Business Journal ranked my company, MMG, number 4 among public relations firms in the Washington, D.C., and area.  PR Week ranked the company in the top 35 public relations firms nationwide.  In 2000, Diversified Agency Services (DAS), a division of Omnicom Group, Inc., one of the worldʼs largest multimedia holding companies, acquired MMG.

I currently lead two growing companies:

The Starfish Group brings expertise in business, education, career development and work force training to college, nonprofit and business audiences.

Lucky Planet Foods provides flavorful meals and desserts, packaged using ecologically friendly ingredients, materials and processes free from animal product that are good for people, good for animals and good for the planet.
